Defend the Life of Chairman Gonzalo on His 86th Birthday

By the Editorial Board

December 3 is internationally celebrated by Communists and revolutionaries in commemoration of the birth of Chairman Gonzalo, the Great Leader of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP), who turns 86 this year.

Chairman Gonzalo is the greatest Marxist-Leninist-Maoist on the face of the earth and the guarantor of the victory of the world proletarian revolution, whose guiding thought contains universal and irrevocable contributions, which must be applied creatively in all countries.

Born in in Arequipa, Peru to a middle-class family, then Abimael Guzman, he was a diligent and disciplined student who gravitated to Marxism through the teachings of the founder of the PCP, José Carlos Mariátegui. He would soon join the PCP, which was at that time suffering from revisionist deviation. It was in the Party and through study of the struggles against revisionism led by Chairman Mao Zedong against the revisionist Nikita Khrushchev that Guzman was forged as a Communist. Along with his comrades, he waged a fierce struggle to eliminate revisionism within the PCP.

By the early 60’s, based firmly in a revolutionary understanding of the teachings of Mao and Mariátegui, Chairman Gonzalo relocated to Ayacucho, the most impoverished and backward part of Peru, located in the Andes, where he made further study of the Peruvian peasantry. From here he continued making strides in relentless two-line struggle against both right and ‘left’ deviations within the Party. Eventually, he would lead the reconstitution of the PCP in 1979, having rid it of revisionism, forging it in the flames of class struggle and two-line struggle, and preparing it for the Initiation of Armed Struggle in 1980.

As the proletarian and revolutionary forces were on the retreat in 1980, the world was entering the period when imperialism will be swept from the face of the earth, and Chairman Gonzalo’s all-powerful thought emerged to raise the red flag high in the command and guide of the People’s War in Peru, ongoing and indefatigable to this day.

Under the unmatched leadership of Chairman Gonzalo, the People’s War spread from the Andes, and in this glorious war the PCP built and fortified itself. Chairman Gonzalo led the development and promotion of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism, which is the universal and all-powerful ideology of the proletariat today, a third and higher stage of Marxism. Through his creative application of Maoism to the concrete conditions of Peru, Gonzalo Thought emerged as principal to the revolution in that country, and contains contributions of universal validity for the rest of the world, for which Maoism remains principal.

In 1992 the world proletarian revolution would suffer a major setback with the arrest of Chairman Gonzalo, unbowed, a convicted and confessed Marxist-Leninist-Maoist, Gonzalo Thought. Chairman Gonzalo would deliver his transcendental speech from the clutches of the enemy which establishes the direction of proletarian revolution today, and all revolutionaries without exception must learn from Chairman Gonzalo.

December 3 holds special significance, not only as Chairman Gonzalo’s birthday, but also as the day of the founding of the People’s Guerrilla Army (EGP) in 1979. With the founding of the EGP, Chairman Gonzalo established a pillar of the revolution, one of the three instruments of revolution that are necessary for victory: the Party, the People’s Army, and the United Front.

Tribune of the People fights at its post to defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo, to uphold and defend Gonzalo Thought, and to uphold, defend, and apply Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism, with the contributions of universal validity of Chairman Gonzalo.
