Workers’ Voice: ‘The Police Officers Use A Lot of Unnecessary Use of Force’

The Austin Tribune Support Committee was in the area of the Verde Apartments when a young Latino man was arrested at gunpoint by Austin police. As nearby residents came out to observe the situation and monitor the police, Tribune spoke with residents at the complex about their experiences with police who have targeted working class Latinos. The tenants talked about police assuming they are criminals, about not having access to mental healthcare, and being evicted. One woman referred to the police killing community members such as Alex Gonzales Jr. and Daniel Rocha, an 18-year-old murdered by APD in 2005.
