Current of the People – Red Sun ( CP-Sol Rojo, Corriente del Pueblo Sol Rojo), a revolutionary and democratic organization in Mexico, has faced censorship from imperialism and the old Mexican state for years. This censorship came to a head on September 16, when their Twitter account was restricted, and culminated with police beating and arresting three militants on September 20.

Earlier this year, the organization registered suspicious traffic on their blog, Twitter, and Facebook; they had been hacked and sabotaged many times before then.

According to CP-Sol Rojo, the targeting of their online presence coincides with their signing of the Declaration for Life issued by the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, and comes after the organization reported on the death of Chairman Gonzalo. The censorship of revolutionary organizations contradicts Mexico’s claims of ‘freedom of speech’ and ‘independence’ from the United States.

Similarly, the arrests and beatings of the three militants are not the first state attacks on CP-Sol Rojo; in 2018, Dr. Ernesto Sernas García was forcibly ‘disappeared’ and in 2019 Luis Armando Sources Aquino was ambushed and assassinated. Both fought for the people’s democratic rights.

Censorship is one of many ways revolutionaries are intimidated, and coincides with physical repression. CP-Sol Rojo is no stranger to either, but have refused to remain silent. As they’ve pointed out in a recent statement, social media is controlled by imperialism, but the streets are theirs. In response to this state repression, CP-Sol Rojo has called for mobilizations on September 23, the 56th anniversary of a guerrilla attack on state barracks considered the beginning of armed socialist struggle in Mexico.

Below an unofficial translation of the aforementioned statement issued by Current of the People-Red Sun.

The Mexico of “democratic liberties,” the Mexico of “freedom of speech,” the “independent” Mexico that patriotically shouts about its so called “independence,” is actually the Mexico of the dictatorship of landlords and the big bourgeoisie subordinate to Yankee imperialism.

We have known this and have denounced forever. The semicolonial condition that weighs on the people of Mexico determines the dismantling of “national sovereignty” and the entire economic, political, cultural, military, etc. subordination of our country by imperialism, mainly Yankee. This explains the imposition of megaprojects, evictions and deaths, the signing of economic treaties favorable to imperialism and the passing of anti-people policies dictated by international economic organizations against our people!

This is observed from all angles of social life, in the case that we denounce today, from the “blessed” social networks (as Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador calls them) controlled by imperialism.

This is not surprising. The ownership of the media is held by the oligarchy, in this case the magnate Jack Dorsey who owns Twitter which is part of the Yankee monopoly on digital communication. We are not surprised because it is clear that there are no progressive magnates or good imperialists; both constitute the class enemy of the proletariat and the popular masses of the whole world.

By virtue of the foregoing, we denounce that:

      I. For years, based on our activity and our political struggle shared on social media and online, Yankee imperialism, in collusion with the Mexican state, has repeatedly sabotaged our online presence, hacking our accounts on more than one occasion.

II.  Throughout the year 2021 we had been registering suspicious activities on our blog site, on our Facebook account: Sol Rojo, and on our Twitter account : @SolRojoOax

III.  Now, specifically, our Twitter account : @SolRojoOax has been blocked for “suspicious activities” that “violate security rules.”

Current state of CP-Sol Rojo’s Twitter account @SolRojoOax. Image reads, “Caution: This account is temporarily restricted”

The dates our social media account was targeted coincide with the moment in which our organization decided to sign the  Declaration for Life issued by the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), of which we are adherents, being participants of the various calls made by the EZLN, such as the consultation YES on August 1, which called to fight for truth and justice for the victims of state terrorism; the National Campaign for Truth and Justice itself; to disseminate the names of the victims, including the names of our comrades Ernesto Sernas García and Luis Armando Fuentes Aquino; in solidarity with the 421 and “Extemporaneous” delegations that left for Insubordinate Europe; and more recently, in solidarity with the migrant workers who are imprisoned in the city-prison of Tapachula, Chiapas, besieged by the National Migration Institute and the National Guard (the fourth reactionary army corps in the war against the people).

Now that the news has spread about the biological death of the great Chairman Gonzalo, head of the Peruvian revolution and the world proletarian revolution, we have also denounced that the old Peruvian state, in complicity with Yankee imperialism, assassinated him after almost 29 years in prison, isolation, torture and cruel treatment. We have taken a position pointing out that Chairman Gonzalo has been the greatest Marxist-Leninist-Maoist -mainly Maoist- living on the face of the earth, and that just as yesterday it we defended his health and life, today we defend his almighty thought, which is true and has universal validity for the working class and the oppressed peoples of the world.

Surely imperialism and the old Mexican state think that they will be able to silence our voice by hacking, sabotaging, blocking or canceling our social media accounts. To this we say that ours is a class struggle, and this is defined mainly in the streets, with organization and political struggle. Social media accounts are controlled by the oligarchy and imperialism. The streets are ours!

However, it should be noted that attacks to the digital security of popular movements are usually accompanied by physical repression, be it massive or selective.

Therefore, we hold the old Mexican state, its different levels of government and Yankee imperialism responsible for any aggression that may develop against our organization or militancy anywhere in the republic.

In the face of repression, mobilize!

With the Red Sun, the people will win!
