Colombia
Revolutionary youth organizations Movement of Students in Service of the People and the Revolutionary Youth League held a protest against police violence. The demonstration was held a year after Javier Ordóñez, father of two, was tortured and murdered by police, and commemorated last year’s country-wide uprising in the wake of his death. This year’s protest was incited by the police murder of Brayan López, 22, one month ago. At the protest, López’s mother gave a speech where she denounced the state for murdering her son and other youth. Skirmishes between the protesters and police broke out, lasting more than three hours. Protesters used molotov cocktails and other improvised explosives against the police forces.
Graffiti seen during the protest read, “Justice for Brayan, Murderous State!” “The elections are the democracy of the rich, Political reform is not the solution!” and “Elections no, Revolution yes!”
