Week in Struggle: October 8-14


On October 9, the Revolutionary Front for the Defense of the People’s Rights (FRDDP, Frente Revolucionária de Defesa dos Direitos do Povo) organized an event in honor of Chairman Gonzalo. The event was notable for the high attendance of quilombolas (Afro-Brazilians descended from escaped slaves). Attendees sang the Internationale at the beginning of the event. At the table, leaders of the League of Poor Peasants (LCP, Liga dos Camponeses Pobres) and the Popular Women’s Movement (MFP, Movimento Feminino Popular) shouted: “Chairman Gonzalo lives in his all-powerful Gonzalo thought! Chairman Gonzalo is immortal! Down with imperialism and reaction! Down with the traitorous and capitulationist rats of the right opportunist line!” 

On October 6, the A Nova Democracia Support Committee in Rio de Janeiro spoke to people on the subway and distributed a special newspaper edition in honor of Chairman Gonzalo. Support committee members also denounced the genocidal government of Jair Bolsonaro and the miserable conditions forced on the Brazilian people.

Musicians and artists from Brazil and several other countries are raising money in support of the peasant struggle for land in Rondônia, Brazil, organized by the LCP. The project is called “We will return stronger,” referencing the peasants from Camp Manoel Ribiero resisting and frustrating the government’s plan to massacre them. The fundraiser states, “The role of culture and art must always be to represent and defend the people and their struggles. Propaganda and solidarity with these brave sons and daughters of the Brazilian people is the duty of every democrat and revolutionary.”


In Medellín, a banner was hung from a pedestrian bridge in honor of Chairman Gonzalo. The banner reads, “The people are the light of the world when they speak everything trembles, the rich tremble because the masses can and do make everything. Honor and glory to Chairman Gonzalo!”


The Current of the People Red Sun (CP-Sol Rojo, Corriente del Pueblo Sol Rojo) published a statement on Columbus Day, October 12. The statement condemned the ‘holiday’ and explained that the date marks one of the largest genocides in history and the brutal oppression of indigenous people. It also detailed the resistance of indigenous people in the last 529 years included photos of road and railway blockages organized by CP-Sol Rojo and other progressive groups in solidarity with the peoples of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.


In Vienna and Innsbruck, revolutionaries hosted events in support of the revolutionary Turkish newspaper Yeni Demokrasi. The old Turkish State threatens, targets, and tortures the newspapers’ editors and readers to prevent the dissemination of the newspaper. Ibrahim Kaypakkaya, founder of the TKP/ML, and Chairman Gonzalo, leader of the Communist Party of Peru, were honored at the event, which also included speeches, music, and film.

Election boycott propaganda was documented in Linz and Steyr. The posters included quotes from Chairman Gonzalo’s interview of the century, with one poster reading, ” I think that this is the main thing for the people, that the majority express their repudiation of the elections […]. This is important because that is how the will of the masses of people, the immense majority who already understand that the electoral road offers no solutions, will be expressed.”


In Saint-Étienne, revolutionaries hosted an educational event on the LCP. The event was used as an opportunity to teach activists about the peasant struggle in Brazil. Attendees posed with a banner reading, “Long live the struggle of the poor peasant revolutionaries of Brazil! Long live the League of Poor Peasants!”


In Oslo, a banner in solidarity with poor peasants in Brazil and their struggle for land was documented, reading, “Long Live the PCP [Communist Party of Peru]!” alongside a hammer and sickle.


In Freiburg, graffiti was documented in support of Chairman Gonzalo, the People’s War in India, and the peasant struggle in Brazil. The graffiti reads, “Eternal glory to Chairman Gonzalo, On September 11, 2021, Chairman Gonzalo, leader of the Communist Party of Peru, was murdered in solitary confinement. Until the end he fought for the Revolution!” “Solidarity with the peasants of Tiago Dos Santos!” and “Support the People’s War in India!”

The Tribune of the People Support Committee in Phoenix hosted an educational event on the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, Chairman Mao’s struggles against revisionism, and capitalist restoration in China in 1976. Members of the support committee concluded the event by singing the Internationale.

Graffiti in honor of Chairman Gonzalo, the Communist Party of Peru, and the People’s War in Peru was documented in cities across the country. The slogans read, “Long live Chairman Gonzalo!” “Long live the People’s War in Peru!” “Long live the PCP!” “Long Live Chairman Gonzalo and his all-powerful Thought!” and “Eternal honor and glory to Chairman Gonzalo!”
