Brazil: Revolutionary Activists Commemorate Chairman Gonzalo

By Ben Robinson

On October 13 in Rio de Janeiro, the revolutionary organization Revolutionary Front in Defense of the Rights of the People (FRDDP, Frente Revolucionária de Defesa dos Direitos do Povo) held an event to commemorate Chairman Gonzalo and his All-Powerful Thought. Chairman Gonzalo, leader of the Peruvian Revolution, defined Marxism-Leninism-Maoism as the highest stage of the ideology of the international proletariat. He was killed by the Peruvian State under the orders of US imperialism on September 11 in a futile attempt to vanquish the Peruvian Revolution and annihilate Gonzalo’s revolutionary ideas. Since Gonzalo’s death, revolutionaries and progressives have mobilized worldwide to defend Chairman Gonzalo’s legacy and honor his contributions to the World Proletarian Revolution.

The commemoration in Rio de Janeiro featured portraits of Karl Marx, the great Vladimir Lenin, Chairman Mao Zedong, and Chairman Gonzalo. Attendees sold revolutionary literature, including Brazilian revolutionary newspaper A Nova Democracia‘s (AND) special print edition which honors Chairman Gonzalo, who is the leader of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP, Partido Comunista del Perú) and the People’s War in Peru.

According to AND, after attendees sang the Internationale, an FRDDP veteran militant, “highlighted that President Gonzalo actively participated in the ideological and political struggles that would generate Maoism, directing the Red Fraction of the PCP to reconstitute it as an authentic Marxist-Leninist-Maoist Communist Party to start the Protracted People’s War and to lead to the New Democractic Revolution in Peru.”

The event featured many groups of people, including workers, students, and mothers, whose children were able to attend as FRDDP provided childcare. The children held a banner for Chairman Gonzalo they had made at the end of the event reading, “Chairman Gonzalo lives!”

Gonzalo Thought is the application of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism to the concrete reality of Peru. It is called all-powerful because through applying Gonzalo’s ideas, the oppressed and exploited masses of Peru are able to wage a People’s War which will ultimately overthrow the old Peruvian State. Through their armed struggle, they will destroy the backwards society maintained by the big landlords, bureaucratic capitalists, and US imperialism. More and more, Gonzalo’s universal contributions to proletarian ideology are being upheld and applied in other oppressed countries, and as well as toward the development of revolution in imperialist countries.
